Biography

Nora Kobrinsky is a painter and printmaker. She earned her BFA (honours) from the University of Manitoba (2008) and participated in MAWA's (Mentoring Artists for Women's Art) foundation mentorship program (2008 - 2009). Her work has been shown in solo and group exhibitions in Manitoba as well as local and international print exchanges. Nora lives in Winnipeg where her studio is open to the public once a month as part of Winnipeg's First Fridays in the Exchange.

Artist Statement

Small Works
These works belong to two series that I have been revisiting periodically for several years.

Objects Series
I've been considering our attachment to objects and how we invest them with meaning. At the same time I've been thinking about travel and how place affects our emotional state. In this series I have painted small objects that have significance for me. I have located them in settings, both real and imagined, that I find interesting.

Crow Series
I find crows fascinating. They are extremely clever problem solvers and have adapted well to living in the urban environment. I like to use them in my work particularly because their social structures and relationships have much in common with those of people. These are the latest additions to the Crow series.
